World Children's Haiku Contest
                    2012 World Children's Haiku Contest
12th World Children's Haiku Contest 2011-2012
Organized by: JAL Foundation Sponsored by: Japan Airlines
Supported by: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan、 Agency for Cultural Affairs in Japan、 Japan Committee for UNICEF
Originating from Japan, Haiku is the shortest form of poetry in the world. In a short descriptive verse, it captures a moment in the poet’s life, or simply expresses the beauty of nature. Haiku is now enjoyed in many countries around the world.
JAL Foundation biennially organize 'World Children’s Haiku Contest', and we are happy to announce that the 12th contest is to be held this year. All winning haiku will be collected and published next year as an anthology titled Haiku By World Children.

The themed of the 12th contest is 'FESTIVALS'.

Festivals form an integral part of our lives, and are held in many ways, on various occasions. They could be humble or grandiose, ritual or festive. Festivals embody the spirit of mankind, purify our souls and remind us what we're thankful for. How are festivals seen in the eyes of children? How do they express festivals of their country or region in their drawings and poetry? We look forward to receiving haiku and works depicting festivals from children around the world!

Through the contest, children are given the opportunity to compose haiku that will encompass their memories. The experience of composing haiku will also become a part of their pleasant memories of their childhood.
