World Children's Haiku Contest
                2009 World Children's Haiku Contest
11th World Children's Haiku Contest 2009-2010
Organized by: JAL Foundation Sponsored by: Japan Airlines Supported by: UNICEF
Originating from Japan, Haiku is the shortest form of poetry in the world. In a short descriptive verse, it captures a moment in the poet’s life, or simply expresses the beauty of nature. Haiku is now enjoyed in many countries around the world.
JAL Foundation biennially organize 'World Children’s Haiku Contest', and we are happy to announce that the 11th contest is to be held this year. All winning haiku will be collected and published next year as an anthology titled Haiku By World Children.

The themed of the 11th contest is 'SCHOOL'.
School occupies an extensive part of children’s everyday life. It is a place where children meet and eventually part from their friends and teachers, where the amount of time experiencing joy and sorrow is as much as the time spent learning languages, science and other new knowledge. Through haiku these shimmering moments can be captured.

Through the contest, children are given the opportunity to compose haiku that will encompass their memories. The experience of composing haiku will also become a part of their pleasant memories of their childhood.
