In preparation for operating the routine observations, new committee named "Committee on promoting the Earth Environmental Observation by Regular Airline Flights" was inaugurated on March 3, 2007 to promote stable observation, to maintain the data accuracy and to ensure effective use of the obtained data from the observation.

This committee was established with the intention to achieve the objective of promoting earth observation by collecting instructive suggestions from related organizations and external knowledgeable people for maintaining the newly developed aircraft observation platform and using the obtained data actively and effectively.

To utilize the aircraft observation platform effectively, it is important to consider the verification and further improvement of the data accuracy and equipment itself. It is also important to review and enhance the observation route and number of the aircraft used, as well as maintain the equipment reliability.

As has previously been the case, this committee is organized by JAL Foundation in cooperation with NIES.

To put it concretely, its objective is to obtain invaluable advise concerning the matters listed below. In order to review the data obtained, promote its use, and provide required feedback to the observation, a subcommittee "Data application for atmospheric observation" was also established under the parent committee.

1. To steer the overall project.
2. To promote worldwide data application.
3. Future operational structure concerning the data application.
4. To maintain and improve the observation platform.
