The haiku captures a poignant paradox: the back-and-forth momentum of a swing contrasted with the linear, irreversible escape of time. This motion finds its perfect sensory counterpart in the rushing roar of the river below. ​In the painting, the vibrant, swirling golden brushstrokes visually mimic that overwhelming torrent of sound. As the boy swings out over the water, the loud, rushing noise drowns out everything else, overwhelming his senses. It is this literal wall of sound that allows his thoughts to untether; the roar of the river clears his mind, washing away his memories into the chaotic, joyful blur of the present moment.
