About the World Children's Haiku Contest

ハイクを通して、子どもたちの感性を養い、
日本と世界の子どもたちの
相互交流を深めます。
Through haiku, we cultivate the sensitivity of children, fostering mutual exchange among children in Japan and around the world.

世界こどもハイクコンテストは、世界の子どもたちにハイク創作の楽しさを広めその感性を養い、俳句を生み出した日本文化への理解を深めることで相互理解と国際交流を促進することを目的としています。2年に一度、日本および全世界の15歳以下の子どもたちを対象に、絵とハイクで構成された作品を募集する「世界こどもハイクコンテスト」を開催しています。 The World Children's Haiku Contest aims to spread the joy of haiku creation to children worldwide, nurture their sensitivity, and deepen their understanding of Japanese culture, which has given birth to haiku. Held every two years, the contest invites children under 15 from Japan and around the world to submit works composed of both drawings and haiku.

how to Make World Children's Haiku

Step1
3行の詩(ハイク)を作るCreate a 3-line poem (haiku)

1枚の絵を描くDraw one picture
Step3
絵の中にハイクを入れるInsert the haiku into the picture

こどもハイクでは、3行の詩に合わせて1枚の絵を描き、その絵の中にハイクを入れる、という決まりとしています。ハイクに絵を添えることで、より作品への理解が深めることができます。また、子どもたちも絵と言葉の両方に触れながら創作活動を楽しむことができます。

In Children's Haiku, it is a rule to write one picture corresponding to a 3-line poem and insert the haiku into the picture. By adding an image to the haiku, a deeper understanding of the work can be achieved. Children can enjoy creative activities by engaging with both images and words.

※Established in 1996 as part of the 100th-anniversary commemorative project for Natsume Soseki's visit to Kumamoto in 1896"

"Haiku Koshien in Matsuyama" High School Haiku Contest

Sponsors the 'Haiku Koshien' held annually in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture ('National High School Haiku Championship' (※)), providing supplementary prizes.

※A school team competition where red and white teams (5 members each) compete in a tournament based on haiku composed according to a predetermined theme.
