The illustration depicts a quetzal soaring towards the vast blue sky above the historic Mayan ruins. The quetzal, a bird with dazzlingly beautiful green and red plumage, has long been called the 'bird of the gods' in the land of the Maya. Did the author actually hear the quetzal's call in this very place? To think so makes one feel rather envious. Its call, "Kyokyokyokyo...", is high and clear like a flute, seeming to instantly brighten the listener's heart. Japanese judges who read this verse also searched online for videos of quetzals, finding themselves captivated by their beauty. This verse directly conveys to the reader the author's feeling of listening intently to the bird's heart-fluttering call.
