暖かい気候の国、家族でのんびりと海水浴を楽しんでいる場面が想像できる俳句です。パパが寝ていて、お母さんが持ってきたランチを一人むしゃむしゃと食べて。それぞれが誰に気兼ねすることなく海辺の時間を楽しんで、素敵な家族の時間です。気ままに過ごしているパパとママの間で作者のとおこさんが、美しい海を満喫して泳ぐ新鮮な体験の喜びが俳句にもイラストにも中心に描かれ、家族がそれぞれ、いい距離感の中で、好き好きに過ごせる開放的な世界が伝わります。夏の陽光を照り返す青い海に、平和そのものの、休日の家族像です。

We can imagine a family enjoying a relaxing swim in a warm-weather country. While Papa is napping, Mama eats the lunch she had prepared. Everybody enjoys what they want to do at the shore, which is a lovely family moment. The joy of the new experience of swimming in the beautiful ocean is central to both the haiku and the illustration, as the author, Tooko, is between the carefree Papa and Mama, conveying an open world where each family member can spend time as they please, in a reasonable distance. It is a holiday family portrait, very peaceful, with the blue ocean shining in the summer sun.
