The artwork represents an exciting dialogue between text and image. Instead of classic winter motifs (snowmen, sleds) the author chooses an unexpected object – an ice cream display case, turning it into a symbol of the inaccessible pleasures of summer. The center of the composition is the closed display case, whose bright flavors (strawberry, blueberry, pistachio) contrast with the gray-blue nuances of the winter landscape. The child, drawn from the back, heightens the sense of loneliness and sadness, but the „late winter“ brings hope for an upcoming warming. The haiku, inscribed within the drawing, adds sonic and emotional depth through the „creaking, locked display case.“ The artwork captures, in a mature yet childlike way, the longing for warm days and the pleasures of summer.
